About

  • The University Grants Commission, Government of India, has given priority to the downtrodden students, staffs and faculty, and given direction to all the universities to establish SC/ST Cell. The SC/ST Cell at Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo was constituted in the year 2021. It specifically concentrated on the welfare of the SC/ST students, staff and faculty. The Cell implements various guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission, Government of India in GKU. The Cell ensures the effective implementation of Government policies in the admission of students in all the programmes, prevention of caste based discrimination, accommodation in the hostels, appointments to the teaching and non-teaching posts against reserved category, establishment of Book Bank in the University, and maintenance of roster register in the University,
  • Objectives

  • The SC/ST Cell focuses on effective implementation of policies, guiding counselling on academic & financial matters, efforts to enhance the diversity within the university. Some of the specific main objectives of the SC/ST Cell are:
  • 1. To implement & monitor the reservation policy for SCs/STs in the University.
  • 2. To take follow up measures for achieving the objectives and targets laid down for the purpose by the Government of India and the UGC.
  • DUTIES OF SC/ST CELL:

  • 1. The SC/ST Cell was established in the university to coordinate with the university authorities in the implementation of the various policies and programmes launched by the Central Government, UGC and State Government for the benefit of the SC/ST students. The staff of the Cell are actively engaged in coordinating and solving the problems in related matters. They announce details of government scholarships and fellowships through circulars to the SC/ST students.
  • 2. It also undertakes the activities to develop awareness among the SC/ST students, especially from the rural areas.
  • 3. The Cell ensures the implementation of the rules of reservation in appointments as well as in the allotment of quarters to SC / ST employees and provides guidance to university in respect of promotions/recruitment following rules concerning SC/ ST reservations/
  • 4. The Cell Collects reports and information regarding the GOI orders on various aspects of education, training and employment of SC and ST candidates, which help in evolving new policies or modifying existing policy of the university.
  • 5. Analyse information on admissions, education, training and employment of SCs and STs, and prepare reports and process for onward transmission to the Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development University Grants Commission and such other authorities as may be required.
  • 6. To provide solution to the grievances of SC/ST students and employees of the university for academic and administrative matters.
  • 7. The Cell is assisting the university for providing statistical information periodically and promptly on all aspects related to SC/ST Students, Staff & Faculty Members. Any other work assigned from time to time to promote higher education among these two communities suffering economic, social and educational deprivations.

  • Activities of SC/ST Cell are being planned and will be made functional with the onset of academic year 2024-25. In the meantime, the poster for SC/ST Cell is being prepared and put up on the notice board of all the Faculties and Hostel of GKU by 15-06-2024.
